You have many options when choosing how to spend your free time on Koh Lanta. LILS frequently arranges excursions, dinners and cultural events for students, and there are many other activities you can take part in, either on your own or with a friend.

Thai food is famous for its diverse flavours and healthy ingredients. Take the opportunity to try as many dishes as you can.

Have you tried coconut juice, or fruit shakes made from mango, pineapple, banana, watermelon, guava, papaya, or lime? Thailand has many tropical fruits and there are endless mixes of shakes and juices to explore.

Traditional Thai Massage is very popular with the Thais who have used it for centuries, and there are many massage parlours and spas on the island. Spoil yourself with massages, manicures or beauty treatments at cheap prices.

Train in Thai boxing

There are several Thai boxing gyms on Lanta where you can learn Thai boxing with your own personal trainer. Lessons are available for beginners all the way up to championship level. Train a couple of times per week or up to two times per day.

Koh Lanta has two permanent Thai boxing stadiums and there are fights 2-3 times per week between November and May. If you are a good Thai boxer, you can fight too.

Dive and snorkel

The Andaman Sea provides some of the best snorkelling and diving in Thailand. You can learn to dive, or take day trips to go diving or snorkelling in the best spots around Koh Lanta.

On the east coast, you will find mangrove forest with canals, perfect to explore by kayak. You can also visit islands, find secluded beaches and paddle into caves.

Ride on elephants through the jungle, and up the hills to waterfalls or caves.

Take a tour with a longtail boat through the mangroves and look for monkeys, birds and big lizards. Out on the open water you can sometimes see dolphins.

Koh Lanta has two Buddhist temples and they welcome foreign visitors. The monks do interesting guided tours.

Teach English

Teach English

Lanta International Language School runs a project where we teach English in a poor village on the east coast. The work is unpaid but fun.
